Hey all, it’s Friday once again, and that means it’s time to take a look at the Cool Stuff We Bought This Week! Some very interesting stuff came in this week, and I’m hyped to share it with all of you. Maybe you’ll find some goodies here for a special someone (or yourself) this holiday season.
I’ll start off with a hot one, a Judge Foil Bloodstained Mire. While not quite as rare as their Onslaught counterparts, I appreciate the Judge foil variants of the fetchlands for the full foiling on the art and text box. The Rob Alexander signature is just icing on the cake for this beautiful card.
Whenever I get a chance to take a peek at a Summer Magic card, I feel like I’m obligated to share it here. It’s only a Titania’s Song, sure, but it’s speculated the population of each rare in the set amounts to a dozen copies each. Even more spectacular is the fact that this card is incredibly clean. Fun fact for you, this is the first printing of Titania’s Song that contains an apostrophe in the card name. (Oh man, now THAT is my kind of trivia – Editor Joe)
Not exactly comparable to the last card in terms of rarity, but definitely silly in its own right, here’s Nerf War. This was a promo from HASCON 2017, part of a set of three Hasbro-themed cards with Grimlock Dinobot Leader and the later reprinted Sword of Dungeons & Dragons. Silver borders guarantee a fun time, and if your opponent doesn’t mind you annihilating their deck with a Nerf Blaster, you may get lethal damage in for only 3UR.
Another week, another piece of the Power Nine. You’d think I’d get less excited about seeing one of these as often as I do, but the feeling of unboxing a buylist package and seeing a piece of power still hasn’t lost its Magic. (Heh, see what I did there?) This Ancestral Recall definitely comes in at a pretty rough Heavily Played, but it will still draw you three cards when it resolves.
Finally, the coolest thing I saw this week, this sealed box of Weatherlight. It came in sort of beat up, with the WOTC shrink wrap mostly intact, but the box underneath it definitely had some battle scars. Not something we normally consider, but we came to the decision to crack this thing open and part out the packs. I absolutely love the way the lid of the box folds out for display. Can we all petition to Wizards to start doing stuff like this again?
Hey Joe! Do you want to tag in for this one?
“Uh, yes. I definitely do! HEY YA’LL CHECK OUT THIS SWEET GOBLIN THAT CAME IN THIS WEEK! Originally a rare from Futuresight, this awesome Rigger has been tantalizing goblin fans for years. When would Wizards finally give us contraptions and break this fella? Some of us were so certain it would happen that we have binders full of the original printing. They never did get around to it in a normal set but decided to throw us a bone in Unstable and FINALLY give our boy his time to shine! I’ve drafted contraptions EVERY time I’ve gotten to draft this set just in case I got to play with this card, and the one time it happened was like, better than Christmas. This is the rarest foil in the set due to it needing to be printed on with the lands to give it a black border – what a gem! The Unstable foils all come in pretty spendy, and this one is no exception at $101.99, but ya’ll don’t have to worry because I definitely bought it already. – Joe”
