Cool Stuff We Bought This Week 10/28/18-11/02/18 (The Ugly Ones)

Hey all, @Chroberry here! It’s Friday once again, and that means it’s time to show off some more Cool Stuff We Bought This Week! This week will be a bit different than the previous, as I’ll be showcasing a different class of card. This article had a working title of The Ugly Ones, as I’ll be sharing some of the most well-loved (and possibly abused) Magic cards that have passed by my desk this year. The cards we’ll be looking at today will be of a Heavily Played or Destroyed nature, and some definitely qualify as MTG Gore. Viewer discretion is advised.

Front

Back

I’d like to lead off with the card that jump-started the idea for this article, this foil Liliana of the Veil. While I won’t share too many details of how this one got to us, I will say that a certain courier service may have completely dropped the ball in delivering this card safe and sound through the rain. The pictures don’t quite show the severity of the warping, but trust me when I say this is far from sleeve-playable. Fun fact: I used to have this card as a desk ornament, but it became far too depressing and I had to move it elsewhere.

Lightning Bolt

This Beta Lightning Bolt is a great example of a common Destroyed card. The corners are frayed, the edges are completely worn in, and the core of the paper ranges from colors yellow to brown. Yuck. Cards of this quality are generally something we make an offer on slightly lower than our Heavily Played price but are ultimately sleeve playable given the utmost care in handling.

City of Brass

Here is a beat down playset of Arabian Nights City of Brass. I’ve shared a few copies of these in the past, but never in this rough of shape. These are all in Heavily Played condition, save for the one at the end, which fell down to Destroyed. Very sleeve-playable, but gross enough to force me to wash my hands after touching them. These Cities have seen years of grimy gameplay but would make excellent additions to any multi-colored 93/94 deck.

Replenish

Just as a palette cleanser, here’s a near perfect Urza’s Destiny Replenish in Foil. Old border foils like this are always cool to see, and this is one of the best there is! I had to give you a small break before we got to the last two cards. Alright, onward to the nastiest!

Yuck

Double Yuck

These last two are probably the worst cards I’ve seen, considering their Near Mint values. I give you two Unlimited pieces of the Power Nine: Time Walk and Ancestral Recall. Given the scarcity of these cards, we’re often willing to make an offer, but these two barely qualify as complete cards, and are literally hanging on by the threads! Those creases you see down the middle are severe enough to grab one end and watch the other fall down to make a literal 90-degree angle. I would have snapped a pic of this, but I was too afraid to let them hang like that for long. These are definitely the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Unlimited Power, but you might catch these on our site soon with a highly discounted price. Not to worry though, we’ll be sure to ship these in hard plastic top loaders if any of you are brave enough to order them, though I don’t recommend ever removing them from said top loaders.

All that being said, I recommend you take a cruise around our site and be on the lookout for some of our Destroyed Actual Picture Items. You can find some pretty sweet deals if you don’t care too much about the looks.

That’s all I’ve got for you this week. Join me next week to see what comes in! You can follow me on Twitter or Instagram @chroberry to see some extra goodies from the week, as well as previews and supplementary content for next week’s article. Peace!
